Install Textmolt in Word for Windows

  • Word for Windows

Run the installer, turn Textmolt on once in Word, and open the sidebar. It takes a few minutes, and the add-in loads by itself after that.

You need
Windows Windows 10 or later
Office Microsoft 365, Office 2021 or later, or Office 2019 Retail
Internet Required — the sidebar and every AI request run through Textmolt’s servers

To see which Office you have, open Word and go to File → Account (in some versions, File → Help). The product name and licence type are listed under Product Information.

Get the Textmolt installer from the Download page on textmolt.com, or use the installer files that came with your invitation. There are two kinds — use either one:

  • ZIP (recommended): textmolt-v…-word-setup.zip, which contains install.bat.
  • Installer: textmolt-v…-word-setup.exe.
  1. Right-click the ZIP file and choose Extract All.

  2. In the extracted folder, right-click install.bat and choose Run as administrator. If Windows asks for permission or shows a security prompt, allow it to run.

  3. Wait until the window says Installation complete!, then press any key to close it.

The installer copies a small manifest file to %APPDATA%\Textmolt\WordAddin, registers that folder with Word as a trusted add-in location, and adds Textmolt for Word to Windows’ list of installed apps. Afterwards you can delete the ZIP and the extracted folder.

  1. Double-click textmolt-v…-word-setup.exe and follow the steps.

  2. The installer isn’t code-signed yet. If Windows SmartScreen appears, click More info, then Run anyway — only do this for an installer you got from Textmolt.

Word asks you to add a new add-in yourself the first time. You only do this once.

  1. Open Word. If it was already open, close it completely and open it again.

  2. On the Home tab, click Add-ins, then More Add-ins at the bottom of the panel (some newer versions label it Advanced).

No Add-ins button on the Home tab? Use the Developer tab instead: go to File → Options → Customize Ribbon, tick Developer and click OK. Then click Developer → Add-ins.

  3. In the Office Add-ins dialog, open the SHARED FOLDER tab, select Textmolt and click Add.

A Textmolt tab appears on the ribbon. From now on it loads by itself every time you open Word.

On the Textmolt tab, click Open Sidebar. The sidebar opens on the right of your document. Next, sign in.

The sidebar loads from Textmolt’s servers, so most updates arrive on their own: close the sidebar and open it again to get the latest version.

Occasionally the add-in installed on your computer needs updating too. The sidebar then shows New version available, or — when the update is required — Update your installed add-in. Click Download to get the new installer, run it the same way as before, then reopen the sidebar.

  • Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find Textmolt for Word (or Textmolt, if you used the .exe installer) and choose Uninstall.
  • Or, if you still have the extracted ZIP folder, right-click uninstall.bat and choose Run as administrator.

The SHARED FOLDER tab is empty, or Textmolt isn’t listed

Section titled “The SHARED FOLDER tab is empty, or Textmolt isn’t listed”

The installer probably didn’t run with administrator rights. Run install.bat again with Run as administrator, restart Word, and repeat the one-time step.

If it’s still empty, add the add-in folder to Word yourself. Microsoft’s documented way is to share the folder and add its network path as a trusted catalog (Microsoft’s guide):

  1. In File Explorer, type %APPDATA%\Textmolt in the address bar and press Enter.

  2. Right-click the WordAddin folder and choose Properties. On the Sharing tab, click Share, add yourself and click Share again. Copy the network path Windows shows for the folder (it starts with \\), then click Done.

  3. In Word, go to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Add-in Catalogs. Paste the network path into Catalog Url and click Add catalog.

  4. Tick Show in Menu, click OK, and restart Word. Then repeat the one-time step.

I installed it, but there’s no Textmolt tab

Section titled “I installed it, but there’s no Textmolt tab”

Installing isn’t the last step — Word needs you to add the add-in once. Follow Turn on Textmolt in Word.

Your computer may be missing Microsoft’s WebView2 Runtime, which Word uses to display add-ins.

  1. Download the Evergreen Standalone Installer (x64) from Microsoft’s WebView2 page and install it.

  2. Close Word completely and open it again.

If the sidebar is still blank, check your Office version: Office 2019 Volume License and Office 2016 or earlier can’t run the add-in. Also check that you’re online.

The sidebar says “Update your installed add-in”

Section titled “The sidebar says “Update your installed add-in””

The add-in installed on your computer is older than the sidebar needs. Click Download, run the new installer, and reopen the sidebar. Your account isn’t affected.
